The Mighty Stef upstairs in Whelans was one of those perfect gigs – the band were raring to go and the crowd was more than ready to join in. I’d only ever seen Stef do a solo set, so seeing him with full band was great. With such an exhaustive back catalogue, I really don’t understand why these guys aren’t bigger than they are.
A massive part of the perfection of the night was one of the support acts, A Lazarus Soul. One of those deep, rough Dublin voices, his song about missing people gave me chills and I get goose bumps even thinking about it now. It was a really special moment that could only have happened upstairs in Whelans, in near darkness, with the fire crackling behind us.
