My only gig for August was an intimate show in Odessa with the wonderful Chapters supported by Ultan Conlan. A lovely night with good music and good company – some nights are just awesome.
Next up was the album launch for “Blood Feels Warm” – the second offering from The Chapters – in the gorgeous setting of Smock Alley. I’d really enjoyed their debut “Perfect Stranger”, but had never had a chance to see them live. So I was excited to head along to this album launch and they didn’t disappoint. Their new line-up has led to a new sound, and it has less of a pop-rock sound and is far more country than their first album, but there is a simple honesty to their new songs that is just beautiful.
With an ever growing number of bodies on stage, the band looked like they were having a great time, and the crowd definitely seemed to be enjoying their return to live shows.
Finally, the support act Miriam Donohue was simply lovely.
The Chapters at the Unitarian Church
Chapters in the Unitarian Church was a calmer sort of gig than my usual fare – the beautiful setting was the perfect back drop to the gig previewing most of Chapters upcoming 2013 album. A real find was the support act – Biggles Flys Again. Beautiful voice, fabulous songs. I’ll be trying to see them again in 2013 for sure.
