Lingo Festival

┬áLast up for October was the opening night of Lingo Festival, a new spoken word festival – the first of its type in Ireland (which as they say, is pretty amazing, given how much we all love talking!). I typically wouldn’t include spoken word (or theatre, or dance for that matter) on Gigaholic because I try to keep it exclusive to music, but there was a bit of music at this event, so it snuck in!

Spoken word poet (and Poetry Slam Ireland winner) John Cummins brought together a group of talented musicians to form John Cummins and the Inkloosifs. His performance was inspiring, but Melissa Chouikrat of the Sacreblues band stole the show!

Biggles Flys Again

A few days later, it was off to Biggles Flys Again and Jethro Pickett in the Stags Head. A fundraising show for a Homebeat tour in Germany, the lads played a great mix of their music, new and old. Pity it wasn’t a bigger crowd, because it was a fantastic show.

Niall McCabe band

Next up, I have to admit, was on a bit of a whim. I didn’t know much about the Niall McCabe band before I went to see them, having done a bit of a trawl of upcoming gigs and listening to one or two of their songs. This is what I love most about Irish music – coming across someone almost by accident and heading to see them. They didn’t disappoint.

A small intimate crowd upstairs in Whelans, some serious musicianship and great singing and song-writing – this gig summed up me at my gig-going happiest.
