It’s always a treat to see a friend perform, and this has, so far, been my only chance to see The Sacreblues Band perform. Mixing French and English, with a blues/swing sound, this was a little slice of sunny heaven on a hot June day.
Hot Press Big Break Live brought a big crowd to Odessa Club to see winners Rocstrong, with the ever charming Gavin James opening. He’s always a pleasure to watch and is so unbelievably talented.
Rocstrong, meanwhile, brought some swagger to the night – although admittedly, not entirely to my taste. It’ll be interesting to see what they do in the future, but after tonight, I wonder whether they are at risk of being a one-hit-wonder (although admittedly their single “Go Head” is brilliant).
When Hot Press ran a competition to find their Big Break cover star, it was always going to end up with a quality act. And Katie Laffan was that quality act. The double header upstairs in Odessa with The Riptide Movement was an intimate night, and a chance to see TRM for the third time in two weeks. Even for me, that might have been a bit excessive!
