Bastille in the Academy 2 turned out to be an unexpected treat – their song had been getting heavy airplay and was stuck in my head endlessly. Presuming the gig would be sold out in such a small venue, I was amazed to get tickets a few days prior (the gig would go on to sell out). Supported by Swiss Lips, the band played a slick stomper of a set, complete with one song performed by Dan while wandering around the crowd! The next time they play in Dublin, I can guarantee it’ll be in a bigger venue!
Sircles at the Academy 2
Miracle Bell have been a favourite of mine for a while now so getting the chance to see them at Phantom Live was a no-brainer. It was also my first time to see them with John Broe taking up vocals again after Dave’s departure, but they still sound great.
The fact that their support act, Sircles, turned out to be made up quite a few ex-Blizzards was a definite bonus!
Raglans at the Academy 2
#17 Made it to another Phantom Live for another chance to see Raglans – seriously talented lads that they are. Their indie folk sound is far more developed than I would have expected for a band who formed at Knockanstockan 2010! There are a lot of bands around a lot longer than that who don’t have a patch on these.

Le Galaxie at Academy 2
#8 Probably my first great gig find of 2012 was Phantom Live, a music/dj night run by Phantom FM in the Academy 2 each Friday, featuring a range of Irish and international (mainly UK) acts. At a fiver in, with some serious drinks promos, it can make a cheap and cheerful Friday into a night of pretty decent music.
First Phantom Live I made it to was to see Le Galaxie (thus ending my Le Galaxie overload of March 2012) and Wonder Villains. Really good gig, and pretty much worth my incredibly sick head the next day.

#10 – My final gig of March 2011, was Miracle Bell in the Academy 2, with support from Melés Melés and Shouting at Planes – a lucky lineup for me, bearing in mind it gave me the chance to see two of my ones to watch from the Whelans Ones to Watch shows in January.

The Riptide Movement at the Academy 2
#7 – Early March 2011 brought a chance to see The Riptide Movement headlining at the Academy 2, with support from talented Tallaght boys Leaving Las Vegas. Sweaty, noisy and with a brief pause in drumming while Gar let off the the confetti cannons, this was my sort of gig.
